Looks like Burger King Web2.0 social experiment campaign at Facebook was halted. BK Polarizer widget was an application by Burger King, where if a Facebook user was to delete ten of their online friends, they would get a free BK Whopper burger. Well Facebook wasn’t happy about it. After some 250,000 people was deleted, Facebook has halted the application, citing ‘violation of privacy terms’. Burger King has agreed to the temporary stop, and halted the campaign all-together after talks with Facebook. Their rationale behind this campaign was to connect to its primary customers – age group between 18 to 34 years old, by using Facebook popularity. In my opinion, I find this campaign rather distasteful. Would you rather want to find out in Facebook someone has dumped you over a burger.
