January 19th, 2009 in Hard Disks Drive, Seagate by Uncle Sha
There have been increasing reports and complaints that Seagate’s 3.5-inch 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives are failing at an unusually high rate. Seagate responded to the media by saying they’ve isolated a potential firmware issue, and that’s the cause for the defective HDDs. Their official statement was, “In some circumstances, the data on the hard drives may become inaccessible to the user when the host system is powered on.” The firmware upgrade will be provided free by Seagate and even a free data recover services if you have lost substantial data due to the firmware issue.
