The RazakSAT Malaysian satellite built by Astronautic Technology Sdn. Bhd. of Malaysia was launched into orbit yesterday. The launch conducted by rocket developer Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) had a second successful commercial launch for the American space-transportation startup company founded by PayPal co-founder Elon Musk Launched from the Omelek Island in the Kwajalein Atoll, 2,500 miles southwest of Hawaii, the satellite was brought into orbit by Falcon 1 rocket. Falcon 1 a reusable launch vehicles developed by SpaceX. The company was founded in 2002 and believes in improving the cost and reliability of access to space. RazakSAT satellite carried a high-resolution camera that can be used for land management and similar purposes. It was placed into an unusual near-equatorial orbit that presents many imaging opportunities for the equatorial region. Mahathir Mohamad renamed the satellite to RazakSAT in tribute to the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak for his contribution towards Malaysia’s development. This satellite is Malaysia’s second remote sensing satellite after TiungSAT-1.
