
Don’t you just hate spam emails. Knowing the numbers of total email traffic, spam stands at 81.5%, according to web security firm MessageLabs, I really have to thank my spam filter. This is the recent figures from June 2008
Imagine that, without a spam filter, I’ll think I’ll go crazy sorting all those emails. In fact some of the spam emails which was missed by my filter looks so genuine and real. In this case, this is identity phishing. So be wary people
MessageLabs antispam technologies Matt Sergeant, “Different socioeconomic factors and levels of security awareness” are the reason for varying spam levels from state to state. Put more simply, spam levels depend on overall IT security in a given state, how comfortable users are to share their e-mails on public domains, and other decisions made that end up helping or hurting spammers.
Not only are spam levels increasing, we are also seeing several new and different types of spam. Spam has become mailed out in smaller, more targeted batches and spammers are using varying approaches from leveraging celebrity names and current events to grab attention to exploiting mainstream hosted services like Microsoft Skydrive and Google Docs to evade spam filters. Spammers are relentless in their tactics for exploiting computer users.”
MessageLabs has also noticed a new pattern used by spammers. Now they mail out in smaller and more targeted batches. Spammers are using tactics such as using current events and celebrity names for the readers attention
