The police in Queenstown, New Zealand has the help of social network site, Facebook, that identified and arrested a burglar.

After the police obtained a surveillance video of the burglar, they found out they could not identify him with the current mugshots record.

So they turned to the Queenstown police Facebook account, asking the people in the account to identify the man.

And within 24 hours, there was a positive identification where the burglar was located and arrested.

The offender who attempted to break into a safe at Queenstown yesterday (12/1/9) was identified after a movie and images of him were displayed on Facebook.

He was identified from members of the public viewing him on Facebook, and also seeing him on TV after the Facebook images were displayed on the news.

He is a 21 year old Queenstown apprentice. The images will be removed from Facebook and he will appear in Queenstown District Court on 14 Jan 09.

Thankyou to those media who assisted with our first Facebook arrest.

How cool is that eh. Another step in deterring more crimes.
