illegal music download lawsuit

Looks like after targetting big sites and portal that harbor such illegal download files, RIAA are now targeting individuals.

RIAA had initiated more than 30,000 lawsuits against persons it claimed had illegally downloaded music.

Most of them settled for the $3,500 out of courts settlement, but one downloader took her case to court, citing RIAA attorneys hadn’t proved that she was the person who did the actual downloading from her computer.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset might be someone like you.

She’s a mom who downloads music from the internet and was allegedly ‘caught’ doing so.

And RIAA is making it their mission statement by imposing as large fine on her as an example to all.

Jammie is now deemed liable to pay $80,000 per song, or $1.92 million, by the jury after the verdict was delivered.

But the mother was unfazed and said, “There’s no way they’re ever going to get that (money), I’m a mom, limited means, so I’m not going to worry about it now.”

Ouch …
