Apple has finally taken its stance on iPhone jailbreaking after keeping quiet and says it is a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and infringes on its copyright. Jailbreak is basically an act or tool used to break out of a chroot or jail in UNIX-like operating systems or bypassing digital rights management (DRM). It allows the use of third party files outside of the recognized filesystem that the administrator intends to make available to the iPhone. Apple has submitted a document to the Library of Congress claiming that reverse engineering the iPhone’s operating system is copyright infringement. Apple’s claim is in response to the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s submission for the annual DMCA exemption review.
