The U.S. Navy had a weapon test recently of a prototype gunship which only has been seen on sci-fi movies such as Battlestar Galactica and Quake series games It uses a futuristic technology where instead of explosive chemical propellants used as the firing mechanism to launch the weapon into orbit, it uses electromagnetic energy instead Called the “railgun” it has a capability to fire a projectile up to 370 kilometers, ten times more distance of current gunships and the speed of Mach 7, seven times the speed of sound The idea behind the concept is using the moving kinetic velocity energy rather than using conventional explosives upon impact when hitting a target The prototype is set to debut on gunships by 2018 In my opinion, the gunships will be safer of course with no more explosives around but do we need more weapons of mass destruction
